MH17 ...
A renowned reporter for Russia Today, resigned today in protest over their coverage of Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 crash.
Sara Firth, a high profile reporter and foreign correspondent for the Kremlin-owned channel since 2009, announced her resignation on Twitter, writing: “I resigned from RT today. I have huge respect for many in the team, but I am for the truth,”
Reports indicate she had enough of the conspiracy theories that it was Ukraine behind the incident, something that does not have merit of facts.
“When it comes to covering a story and if anyone asked me to alter or drop something, I’d be out. I wouldn’t think twice about it.
“We do work for Putin. We are asked on a daily basis, if not to totally ignore then, to obscure from the truth,” she tweeted, adding that they had to obey as they were “taking a paycheck”.
In her other tweets, it seemed she had finally reached the end of her tolerance for twisting facts, declaring that she has been doing it far too little lately “in an exercise in honesty”.
She then addressed her sceptics by stating the her account was not hacked.
According to the Guardian, Firth did not agree with Russia trying to blame Ukraine for the fate of MH17.
“When the story broke, you get the kick in your stomach when you’re going to get the facts and it’s this huge story.
“And I walked into the newsroom and they were running an eye-witness account of God-knows who, the person was blaming the Ukrainian government, and it is such a volatile situation”.
Firth said she had said in a 2012 interview if she ever had to withhold facts and not tell the truth, she would leave.
The level of disrespect for the facts, she claimed, bugged her.
“The thing is, once I made the decision, you have to be honest with yourself and it’s so difficult. Once you start telling the truth, it’s brutal”.
